
Naeem Syed
Dr. Naeem Syed is a Lecturer in Cyber Security at Deakin University and a researcher within the Deakin Cyber Research and Innovation Hub. With over 17 years of experience spanning both in academia and the IT sector, he specialises in cyber security of Internet of Things (IoT), cyber-physical systems (CPS), and industrial control systems (ICS). His research focuses on developing robust defence mechanisms against evolving cyber threats, with expertise in Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), machine learning-based intrusion detection systems, and digital forensics.
Dr. Syed is a strong advocate for applying advanced technologies—such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and artificial intelligence—to enhance cyber threat modelling, incident response, and supply chain security. Dr. Syed holds a PhD from Edith Cowan University and a Master of Science in Computer Networks from KFUPM (KSA).
In his current role at Deakin’s School of Information Technology, he is dedicated to bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical application. His teaching portfolio includes secure coding practices, malware analysis, network forensics, and identity and Access management. Additionally, he is actively involved in doctoral supervision and collaborative international research projects, focusing on securing the future of energy infrastructure and autonomous systems.
