Ivano Bongiovanni

With over 20 years of experience in security and risk management, Ivano currently leads the Australian Computer Emergency Team (AUSCERT) as General Manager, focusing on advancing cyber security for member organisations and strengthening their cyber-resilience. In his role, Ivano combines the business acumen required to lead a complex organisation across its multiple functions (from operations through marketing to development) with subject matter expertise in cyber security governance, risk, and compliance.

A passionate and energetic keynote speaker and workshop facilitator, Ivano has been the driver of numerous innovative projects in cyber security service delivery.

Alongside his leadership role, Ivano serves as a Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland, where he contributes to the fields of cyber security governance and leadership. His career in security and risk management started 20+ years ago, as a Police Officer with the Italian Ministry of Interior. He was then Deputy Venue Security Manager at the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic & Paralympic Games, where he delivered the Venue Security Plan for the Main Media Centre and coordinated security services for the MMC, the Olympic Stadium and the Paralympic Village.

He completed a PhD in Risk Management in international airports in Australia: he created a framework to detect instances of organisational vulnerability to safety and security accidents from the operator level to the strategic one. From 2016 to 2018, Ivano worked for the PwC Chair in Digital Economy in a hybrid consultant/researcher capacity. Through design thinking, Ivano has facilitated innovation projects for clients in the public and private sectors, including in government, financial services, transportation, and food packaging.
