Open-source intelligence (OSINT) is the collection and analysis of data gathered from open sources (overt sources and publicly available information) to produce actionable intelligence. The breadth and depth of information, when assessed holistically, identified often reveals patterns which would have otherwise go unnoticed.
Drawing from a wide range of data, including domain records, corporate filings, public registries, and online footprints, OSINT enables analysts to uncover relationships, anomalies, and trends that are often obscured when information is viewed in isolation.
In this talk Richard will demonstrate how the repeated listing of the same name as a technical contact for a website led to an investigation into the murky world of tax havens and shell companies.
It will cover how to explore the Paradise Papers, and linking companies via business addresses, and tax filings. It will also touch on the power and practicality of various basic and advanced OSINT techniques, highlighting how careful attention to detail and structured analytical techniques, can transform publicly available information into meaningful intelligence with real-world investigative value.
